Langkawi Trip (March 2014) Day 4 - Island Hopping

We were supposed to leave the island today.

MIL wanted to go island hopping. Little monster were having the time of their life. OK. Another day it is :)

We decided to go island hopping, as requested by MIL. The guys at the beach told us it's RM35 per adult and RM25 per child. Decent price, I thought. I decided to just Google it first before we decide on it. And found. This is the number to call if you want a better price: 013-666 9980.

They arranged a pick-up from the hotel to the jetty area for island hopping, which was really convenient for our party of 5.

Our journey began with the first stop - Pulau Dayang Bunting.

Pulau Dayang Bunting

There it is. It is shaped like a pregnant lady, hence the name.

And we have arrive at our first Island.

Little monsters taking a break and watching the monkeys.

There is a very steep flight of stairs to get to the lake on top of the hill. I thought I was gonna pass out. Hence, no photos. But the view was spectacular. It wasn't fun getting up there really and mind you I had to carry the little hero on my way down. Penat Gila. We had an hour here before we move on to the next stop.

Eagle Feeding

Next was to watch the eagles feed. There weren't that many eagles that day. I wouldn't be surprised really with the amount of trips in a day. They were probably too full to come and eat.

Onwards to our final destination.

Pulau Beras Basah

Now this final stop was the best, I felt. We were given one hour to chill and enjoy the clear waters at Pulau Beras Basah. There were little fishes even close to shore. Kids were amazed and scared at the same time haha...now this is why I need to bring them to places.

Back to the hotel!

Langkawi Trip (March 2014) Day 3 - Pantai Tengah

On our 3rd day here, we decided to check out Kuah Town to overload on chocolates. I would recommend to go over to the Kuah Duty Free Zone. There are rows of shops where you can get all those treats at prices cheaper than the Kuah Jetty. Some are even exclusive here. My favourite shops are Zeno and Coco Valley. Zeno seems to be cheaper and quite a good choice of brands. Haji Ismail Group outlets are also in this area. Two of them.

We had lunch at Orkid Ria at Cenang Street. Food was good and fresh but very costly. Our meal cost us RM190 for chicken, prawns, veggie and omelette (telur dadar).

Pantai Tengah

Later in the evening, I decided to take the kids to Pantai Tengah. It's not right in front of the hotel, u need to take a short walk to get to it. I took the car :) Little monsters and my 74 year old MIL ain't gonna make that short walk I tell ya.

The beach is filled with all those water activities: para-sailing, jet ski and banana boat. Kinda hard to get a spot to just chill and play with the sand and sea water. If you need to use the water to clean up, you'd have to pay RM1. That's how it is. I guess it's a tourist spot so they really stretch it here.

The beach is not so clean here, you can see cigarette butts and other stuff in the sand. The water, well, just slightly better than PD. Slightly.

Kids trying to bury Nenek's feet.

Close to sunset.

Langkawi Trip (March 2014) Day 2 - Aseania Resort Langkawi & Langkawi Underwater World

Aseania Resort Langkawi

When we arrived yesterday, we checked in at Aseania Resort Langkawi. After hours of research, I thought this would be the best hotel for the little monsters. After all, the pool was stated as the largest in Asia.

Photo taken from Aseania Resort Langkawi website

I made an online booking before we left for Langkawi, they had a promotion then. Was a good rate, about RM380++ for our family of 4, including my MIL, makes us 5. With breakfast.

So, off to check out the breakfast and the infamous pool!

Wefie in the morning.

Main part of the pool. Not open yet at this time.

The wave pool.

Our room was a Super Deluxe Room with a balcony facing the pool. Don't be fooled by what the photo looks like on the internet. We didn't get the one with a small living room. Instead it was a compact version, looks like the Deluxe Room that they advertised. Exactly like that.  We had to walk sideways to get to the toilet. I didn't bother taking photos of the room cos we were too tired yesterday and was kinda disappointed with what we got. Plus the pool in front of our room looks kinda deserted and they were having some renovation works at the pool bar. So it wasn't that great. Only great thing was the location, which is on Ground Floor, so you can just walk out to the pool and the breakfast area. No lifts in my block either.

There's a little grocery store just outside of the hotel, so that was convenient. We ate mostly from this restaurant called 'Lubuk Buaya' along the same road as the hotel, right next to Fave Hotel. Decent nasi goreng and the usual gorengs at a very decent price. Cheap cheap.

Langkawi Underwater World

After all that swimming we decided to check out Langkawi Underwater World. It's about 10 mins walk from the hotel at Cenang Street, but we took the car instead as it was super hot and walking with 2 little monsters....no thanks.

Entrance fee is RM30 per adult with MyKad and RM20 per child above 3 with MyKid. The fees would be RM40 and RM30 respectively for non-Malaysians.

Still quite impressive I must say. Since my last trip (before the kids!) circa 2004, the collection of underwater life still looks pretty healthy. Most importantly, the kids loved it!

Just before we left we got some sweet treats at the Duty Free outlets just at the exit. Coco Valley and The Zon. Good stuff.

Langkawi Trip (March 2014)

Thought of taking the kids for another beach holiday. Didn't want to go to PD again. Asik asik PD kan? And so...we decided to go to Langkawi!

This trip was a 5D/4N by accident, supposed to be a 4D/3N only. Well, you'll see how it went to that later on. Anyways, we decided to drive to Kuala Kedah then take a ferry to Langkawi. It was a very very long drive from KL, about 5 hours. Spent almost half a day on the road! Roughly sampai Kuala Kedah at about 3pm, i think. Sampai kat sana, memang susah nak parking kalau memang nak yang depan-depan jeti. So what happened was the parking guy asked us to follow him on his bike to another area. According to my husband, 'the other area' was near a police station (or inside?). So, after we got that sorted, off to buy ferry tickets!

Once inside, there will be many many 'agents' either trying to get you to rent cars or sell you island hopping packages. We rented a car from one of these 'agents'. I wished i hadn't. Yea we'll get to that later. My advise, just relax. You can always rent a car when you reach Langkawi. Don't be pressured by these guys. But if you got a good deal why the heck not. So anyways, we booked a Wira from them, and they even helped us buy ferry tickets. By the way you will need to prepare RM50 deposit (refundable) for the car. Yea i didn't know that.

Ferry ride was about 1 hour to Langkawi. We got there at about 5pm. The 'agent' gave us a number to call for the car. And so i called. Lady said yea sure they got my booking. Will call back in 5. Called me back and told me, hey, they don't have the Wira at the moment so sending us another car. A Proton Saga. Really??

Anyways after some wheeling and dealing on the phone, the 'agent' says he's got another guy who will get us the car. OK. Whatever.

A dude came and asked my husband to go with him to pick up the car. We ate KFC while waiting for this 'transfer'. About 20mins he came back. It was the ugliest mofo car I have ever seen. And that was the start of our first family Langkawi trip. Hurrahh!!
